A Brief History of Women’s Ordination

Most scholars are agree that the priesthood as we know it today was a development in the early Church, not something specifically instituted by the historical Jesus. From the Gospels, it is evident that Jesus had a high regard for women and enjoyed spending time in their company. After the resurrection, it was women to whom Jesus appeared first and it was Mary of Magdala, “the Apostle to the Apostles,” who told the rest of the disciples about her encounter with the Risen Christ (John 21:1-2, 11-18).

  1. Thank you Reverends for answering your call to the Priesthood despite the pressures that may have stood in your way. I have always felt that the Church would be more balanced and healthy if women were allowed to be Ordained. I believe Christ Ordained both male and female Disciples to continue his work once he Ascended, it is sad that half the story remains untold.
